Roadmap Essay Assignment
College is becoming increasingly more expensive and nonetheless expected in the workforce, but it’s a workforce that doesn’t always promise a career after graduation. Students, educators, politicians, and the general public are increasingly asking if a college education is worth the investment.
In response to the readings we’ve done and the research you’ve composed, write an essay in which you consider the steps you will need to take in order to guarantee the career you hope to achieve with your major.
Your essay should accomplish the three following tasks:
1. Introduction: Establish a context.Begin with the issues raised in the readings and TED Talk we’ve discussed in class and develop a response. According to these authors, what are the problems that college students and graduates are facing? What are some possible solutions that the authors suggest? Then present your thesis statement at the end of this introduction.
2. Body Paragraphs: Present your roadmap step by step. For each paragraph, write about one of the steps you listed in your thesis. Do this to make many paragraphs. Use topic sentences for each. For example:
“The first step I need to do in order to become a ___________ is_______________…”
Of course this is just a template; you can fine-tune it how you want, but also try not to repeat it over and over again! J Your final body paragraphs should be heavily detailed with research.
Also, find areas in your paragraphs to incorporate points made in our readings or TED Talk in order to further support your steps.
3. Conclusion: Reflect and respond. Looking at your roadmap, are you confident in your career choice? What problems might come up that would hinder your success? Can you tie it back to some of the warnings that Singletary gives? Reflect on your plans.

Research:
Any of the links or online websites you use need to be listed on the works cited page.
The above information is not in MLA format. You’ll need to figure out how to write your Works Cited Page accordingly. A link to OWL Purdue is provided under “useful resources.” That should help. Please note that the works cited page should be in alphabetical order, which is determined by the author’s last name.
