Other important actions to take include limiting the amount of alcohol consumption. Research has indicated that alcohol consumption increases the risk for breast cancer. It is also very important to not smoke. In a study conducted, researchers found that breast cancer cases were 24% higher in smokers as compared to non-smokers. One of the most important things to reduce the risk of breast cancer is regularly schedule mammograms. Mammograms have been proven to be the most efficient way for early detection of breast cancer. Regular mammograms can significantly help reduce the risk of breast cancer. If patients are diagnosed very early in the stage of breast cancer, he or she can immediately begin their treatment and significantly increase their chances of survival. Most women are recommended to begin regular mammograms at the after the age of 40. It is also very important and critical to talk to your doctor if you have a family history of breast cancer. This can significantly help prevent breast cancer if the doctor is informed early on and can recommend starting regular mammograms before the age of 40.
